Duties & Responsibilities
- Create multidisciplinary sheet sets and perform advanced 2D and 3D design work supporting renewable energy and substation projects.
- Imagine and create 3D models and renders that visualize complex installations and support client understanding.
- Acquire and apply advanced knowledge of substation systems and power delivery, transmission, and distribution equipment and specifications.
- Provide feedback on and assist in implementing continuous improvement in design standards and processes.
- Lead multiple projects, independently evaluate, select, and apply standard procedures, techniques, and criteria.
- Prepare and review project documentation for quality and compliance.
- Support client interaction for multiple projects within a portfolio; attend and confidently present at project meetings.
- Assign tasks to and direct less experienced team members, ensuring deliverables are met.
- Provide mentoring and technical guidance for staff engineers, particularly in 3D modeling and cross-discipline coordination.
- Assist with proposals to provide professional engineering services.
- May act as Engineer of Record.
- Ensure compliance with company, industry, trade, and jurisdictional safety standards, practices, and codes.
- Perform essential duties, including meeting deliverables and deadlines.
- Perform additional duties as assigned or directed.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Bachelor’s degree or associate degree in engineering, CADD, or a related field; Professional Engineering Licensure or EIT Certificate is a plus.
- 5+ years of engineering design experience, with demonstrated expertise in 2D/3D multidisciplinary design.
- Prior experience designing and drafting utilizing Autodesk Inventor (strongly preferred). Experience in Plant3D, Bentley Substation, Siemens NX, Creo, or similar large-scale assembly design software may be considered sufficient.
- Specific experience in Autodesk Inventor plugin P4I and Ilogic is particularly desirable.
- Strong experience with 3D design approaches, including modeling, assembling, and drawing for client-facing deliverables.
- Familiarity with industry codes and standards (NEC, NESC, IEEE); knowledge of substation or power delivery design is expected.
- Ability to integrate design considerations across civil, electrical, mechanical, and structural disciplines.
- Ability to identify and solve complex problems independently.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; able to confidently present technical content to clients.
- Ability to be both creative and analytical in design execution.
- Detail-oriented and accurate.
- Efficient time management – handle multiple projects simultaneously with minimal supervision, including prioritizing, organizing, and planning effectively.
