Job Opportunity: Assistant Professor in Oceanography at Columbia University
The Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences (DEES) at Columbia University (CU) is seeking applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Oceanography. The role involves primarily teaching on the CU campus in New York City, with collaboration opportunities at the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory (LDEO) in Palisades, NY.
We are looking for candidates with expertise in chemical or physical oceanography, regardless of specific focal areas, who will contribute to our research and teaching missions. Examples include:
- Chemical Oceanography: Biogeochemistry, carbon cycling, chemical tracers of ocean circulation, air-sea gas exchange, chemical speciation.
- Physical Oceanography: Coastal or open ocean research, energy transfer, fluid dynamics, boundary interactions, coastal resilience, hazard exposure, and development of novel methods and technologies.
The successful candidate is expected to develop a high-impact research program addressing global issues and demonstrate strong potential for effective, inclusive teaching at undergraduate and graduate levels. The candidate's research and teaching should complement existing faculty interests and strategic priorities within DEES and LDEO.

Minimum Degree Requirement: PhD
