Open-Source Modeling Python Developer

Description

This software development role focuses on creating new tools for tabular data analysis and modeling. You will create Python APIs and packages to fill in gaps of common data analysis activities focused on tabular data. This includes:

  • Exploratory data analysis.
  • Data preparation, feature engineering, and preprocessing.
  • Supervised and unsupervised models.
  • Visualization methods for models and results.
  • Tools for model interrogation.
  • Presentation, visualization, and documentation of results.

This position involves new packages and possibly contributing to scikit-learn. It does not involve creating, testing, or deploying specific machine learning models. It is a pure software development position.

How We Work

At Posit, open-source developers operate somewhat differently to traditional software engineering. As an open source developer, you have the opportunity to help guide the roadmap and priorities based on your technical knowledge of the problem domain, feedback from users, and in-depth technical understanding. You will not be given a static to-do list from others but will work end-to-end: writing code and tests, documenting APIs, giving tutorials, and keeping the community updated to date with your work. We look for independent developers who are deeply invested in a given domain and we give them an environment designed to support high productivity. We work in small groups, with minimal meetings and plenty of focus time.

Posit welcomes all talented colleagues and are committed to a culture that represents diversity in all its forms. We operate under a unique sustainable business model: We have over 50% of our engineering dedicated to creating free and open source software.  We are profitable and we plan to be around decades from now. Posit is a Public Benefit Corporation (PBC) and a Certified B Corporation®, which means our open-source mission is codified into our charter. As a result, our corporate decisions balance the community’s interests, customers, employees, and shareholders. Hear more about why we think this matters here.
