Summary
We are seeking a strategic, experienced, and mission-driven Vice President of Government Affairs to lead our engagement with federal policymakers, regulatory agencies, and industry stakeholders, as well as provide guidance and lead our state government affairs team. This role is responsible for shaping public policy, developing access and reimbursement opportunities, and advancing legislative and regulatory priorities that align with GeneDx mission and strategic objectives.
Job Responsibilities
Federal Affairs
- Develop and lead the company’s federal government relations strategy that aligns with the business goals
- Monitor and influence federal legislation and regulatory developments affecting genetic testing, precision medicine, access, reimbursement, privacy, and data use.
- Represent the company in Washington, D.C., including participation in coalitions, trade associations, and public hearings.
- Build and maintain strong bipartisan relationships with key policymakers and staff.
State Affairs Oversight
- Provide strategic oversight and coordination of state government affairs activities across all 50 states.
- Guide the state government affairs team who will track and respond to state-level legislation and regulation related to access and reimbursement
Cross-Functional Leadership
- Collaborate with legal, compliance, clinical, commercial teams and other internal teams to assess policy risks and opportunities.
- Advise executive leadership on political and regulatory trends and their business implications.
- Lead the development of policy positions, white papers, and testimony.
People Manager
- Lead a state and federal government affairs team
- Manage external consultants and advisers as appropriate and manage budgets accordingly.
- Sets clear expectations, drive a culture of feedback and continuous improvement, and ensure team goals are met through structured performance reviews and coaching.
- Champion a positive, inclusive workplace culture by fostering open communication, recognizing achievements, and implementing initiatives that boost employee engagement and retention.
Education, Experience, and Skills
- Bachelors degree required, advanced degree (MA, MS, JD, PhD, MBA) preferred.
- 10+ years of experience in government affairs, public policy, or regulatory strategy, preferably in healthcare, life sciences, or diagnostics. Preference given for familiarity with genetic testing, laboratory operations, or precision medicine policy.
- Deep understanding of the U.S. legislative and regulatory process at both federal and state levels.
- Proven track record of successful advocacy and relationship-building with policymakers.
- Strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills.
- Experience managing external consultants and internal cross-functional teams.
- Advanced degree in public policy, law, public health, or related field preferred.
- Based in Washington DC
- Experience working in or with Capitol Hill, federal agencies, and familiarity with state legislative work.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, mission-driven, and highly regulated environment.
