Baker Botts is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Communications to join its Client Development team in the New York office. This position supports the firms Communications team in delivering high-quality, consistent messaging across various channels. The ideal candidate is a polished, service-oriented team player with strong writing skills, administrative capabilities, and a proactive approach to managing day-to-day tasks in a fast-paced environment. The role involves content development, media relations support, internal communications, and data analysis to help strengthen the firms brand and visibility. This is a temp-to-perm position with a hybrid schedule. Key Responsibilities Work closely with the Senior Manager PR and the broader Communications team to execute communication initiatives. Draft compelling content for internal and external audiences, including short-form announcements, long-form features, press releases, and internal briefings. Compile and distribute daily internal newsletters summarizing the firms media coverage. Assist in the preparation of media materials such as press pitches and firm announcements. Track and report on media metrics, analyze media coverage, and compile data to support strategic PR efforts. Conduct research on media outlets, journalists, legal publications, and relevant coverage; create and maintain targeted media lists. Provide administrative support for interviews, media requests, and thought leadership opportunities, including scheduling and briefing documents. Qualifications Bachelors degree required; degree in communications, journalism, marketing, or a related field preferred. Minimum of 3 years of experience in a communications, PR, or related role, preferably in a law firm or professional services environment. Exceptional writing, editing, and verbal communication skills with a strong grasp of tone, audience, and messaging. Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects under tight deadlines with accuracy and attention to detail. Familiarity with owned media formats (e.g., newsletters, blogs, internal portals) and corporate writing standards. Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively across departments and time zones. Professionalism, discretion, and good judgment, particularly in handling confidential information. Preferred: Digital portfolio showcasing writing samples or past communications work. Technical Skills Experience with PR and media monitoring platforms such as Meltwater, Cision, Roxhill, and Passle. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Physical Requirements Ability to work at a computer for extended periods. Occasional lifting of items up to 10 pounds; walking, bending, and reaching as required for normal office activity. Work Environment Standard professional office setting. This is a hybrid role requiring in-office presence three days per week, with standard business hours as defined in the firms policy manual. Additional hours may be required to meet deadlines or manage peak workloads. Occasional travel may be necessary. The salary range for this position is $36.00 - $54.00 per hour.
