Job Purpose
The Assistant Director's primary job purpose is the oversight, management, and advisement of dynamic student programming board Cougar Activities Board (CAB) to promote best practices, student learning, and the achievement of departmental and divisional goals.
This position provides advisement, vision and strategic direction to the Cougar Activities Board. Provides educational and developmental learning opportunities for student leaders and advisors. They serve as consultant to and expert resource for programming and event planning including but not limited to brainstorming, contract negotiating, event management, facility reservation, event execution, and evaluation.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor's degree is required, as well as previous work experience in a college or university setting, event planning, or conference services. Master's degree with an emphasis in Higher Education Administration, Counseling, Student Personnel, or Leadership preferred. Experience advising student groups, event planning, and management required. Knowledge of and ability to apply student development theory to practical situations. Knowledge of assessment practices in higher education. A valid identification card is required for this position. Candidates with an equivalent combination of experience and/or education are encouraged to apply.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to provide leadership training and workshops related to program planning, budgeting, marketing, committee recruitment, and retention is essential. Strong interpersonal, communication (written and oral), and organizational skills. Ability to create, interpret, and apply policies and procedures. General knowledge with working with outside vendors, agents, organizations and resources related to campus programming (examples includeNACA,APCA,ACUI). Ability to develop complex budgets and monitor expenditures. Knowledge of the use of social media to market Student Involvement programs. Ability to create a welcoming environment and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, faculty/staff and the public.
Additional Comments Regarding Position
Evening and weekend hours required. This positioncould havealternative working hours during the academic year as determined with the supervisor. Occasional out-of-state overnight travel. Expected to work collaboratively with other members of the Student Involvement and Leadership staff to provide diverse and balanced programs that can contribute to the holistic education of College of Charleston students.
