Riggs Washington DC is located on the historic downtown corner of Penn Quarter's 9th and F Street, in a building once home to Riggs National Bank. The hotel features 181 guest rooms inspired by the building's legacy, along with Café Riggs, a European brasserie-inspired restaurant, and Silver Lyan, a subterranean bar from renowned bartender Ryan Chetiyawardana.
Position Overview:
The General Manager of Café Riggs is responsible for all operations, financials, and strategy of the restaurant and its team. As the on-site leader, the GM sets the vision, fosters a culture of excellence, and ensures exceptional dining experiences aligned with the hotel's brand values. This role requires a guest-focused, adaptable leader capable of managing daily operations, long-term planning, team development, and brand growth.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership and Culture Building:
- Recruit, mentor, and lead a high-performing team, establishing clear performance and service standards.
- Promote a culture of hospitality, inclusion, and accountability reflecting the Riggs brand values.
- Provide ongoing leadership development and succession planning for senior team members.
- Model respectful, solution-oriented communication in guest and team interactions.
Operational Oversight:
- Oversee all restaurant operations, ensuring service excellence, product quality, cleanliness, and team performance.
- Implement and update SOPs, safety protocols, and service standards to maintain brand consistency.
- Coordinate effectively between front and back-of-house teams, proactively resolving issues.
Guest Experience and Brand Stewardship:
- Drive a personalized, warm, and consistent service culture.
- Engage with guests directly, gather feedback, and address concerns promptly.
- Create guest experience programs, signature events, and rituals to position Café Riggs as a top DC dining destination.
Financial Performance and Strategic Management:
- Manage the restaurant's budget, P&L, and forecasts in partnership with finance.
- Achieve revenue targets through strategic pricing, cost control, labor efficiency, and menu engineering.
- Analyze financial and sales data to inform growth strategies.
Strategic Vision and Brand Development:
- Define long-term strategy in collaboration with leadership and marketing teams.
- Lead development of new concepts, seasonal menus, and partnerships aligned with market trends.
- Represent Café Riggs within the DC hospitality community to support hiring, partnerships, and visibility.
People and Performance Management:
- Oversee scheduling, payroll, training, and performance reviews.
- Enforce disciplinary procedures and recognize team achievements.
Salary Range: $90,000 - $100,000.
