Job Description
Under general direction, the Chief Stationary Engineer is responsible for the operation and maintenance of pumping, heating, and ventilating plant machinery and equipment in a large complex installation. The role includes directing the operation of a large water filtration plant, planning, assigning, and supervising subordinate personnel engaged in plant maintenance and operation activities. Responsibilities also involve developing, interpreting, coordinating, and enforcing methods and procedures related to large physical plant operations, maintaining operational records, and reports. Supervision includes local administrative control and work assignments of craft personnel on extended or temporary assignments. Craft general foremen supervise their respective workmen in craft or trade techniques or methods.
The essential functions include:
- Developing, directing, and reviewing preventive maintenance programs for all plant mechanical, electrical, and auxiliary machinery and equipment, supervising the operation, maintenance, and repair of large high-pressure pumping systems, steam plants, and related equipment.
- Preparing work schedules, assigning duties, inspecting, and reviewing maintenance and operation activities for conformance with standards.
- Requisitioning supplies, materials, and parts necessary for maintenance and operation activities, and preparing specifications and estimates for equipment, supplies, installation, and repair.
- Exercising work direction over skilled craftsmen, preparing and supervising operational reports and records.
- Assisting in the development and advancement of subordinates through training and employee development programs.
The role may include other duties as assigned.
Qualifications include:
- Six (6) years of journey-level Stationary Engineer experience in maintenance, repair, and operation of mechanical and electrical plant machinery, with at least 2 years in a supervisory capacity.
AND
- Possession of a valid California driver’s license.
- Possession of a Universal CFC Certificate issued by the Federal EPA for working with CFCs and HCFCs.
