Job Summary
The commercial real estate loan officer is responsible for navigating the loan process both for clients and management. They will seek out new business opportunities for the financial institution, both from within their portfolio (a sizable portion of which will be initially transferred from existing bank clients) and outside the institution, and keep abreast of any legal, regulatory or market issues that might affect loans. They will properly manage their portfolio, with the assistance of support staff, to ensure financial documents are being collected and risk is being consistently evaluated.
Essential Job Functions
Comfort level with negotiating credit terms with prospective clients; including rate, maturity, covenants, guaranty structure, loan repayment methods and collateral specifications to be consistent with financial institution policies and procedures, and to be competitive with peer financial institutions.
Understanding of accounting processes including balance sheet, income statement, net operating income, asset valuations and debt service.
Evaluates potential customer loan requests and makes loan recommendations to their manager.
Ability to present loan recommendations to the Officer’s Loan Committee.
Develops new customer prospects and business for the financial institution via engagement in CRE related organizations and through peer networks
Ensure portfolio assets are performing as intended through regular contact with clients which will allow discovery of new opportunities, as well as annual visits to the properties.
Collect pertinent financial information when due and ensure covenants and loan conditions are being properly met.
Ensures the risk profile within their portfolio and for each client remains consistent with bank policy.
Ability to work with multiple bank departments and lines of business to meet customer needs.
Job Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, real estate or related field
Minimum of 2 years of experience in a financial institution or commercial loan department
Extensive knowledge of commercial lending services and related areas
Knowledge of underwriting
Good communication and sales skills
Desired Skills
Significant comfort with computer software such as Word, Excel, Google etc. with a preference for industry specific software usage including knowledge of CoStar, Sageworks, Klarivis, Bank Labs
Aptitude for a fast paced, growth oriented, technology driven environment
Growing network of business professionals
Understanding of Bank’s primary geographic market
Additional Requirements
Ability to sit, stand, kneel, and bend for extended periods of time
Must be able to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and other computer components
Ability to converse and exchange information with all levels of staff within the organization
Ability to observe, perceive, and identify data
Ability to travel via air, rail, automobile, and/or bus
