The Commercial Security Technician is responsible for the installation, service, troubleshooting, and maintenance of commercial security systems, including access control, IP video surveillance, and intrusion alarm systems. This role ensures projects are completed efficiently, safely, and to the highest quality standards, while delivering excellent customer service.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install, Service, troubleshoot, and test commercial electronic security systems, including: Access control systems, IP video surveillance (CCTV) systems, Intrusion detection and alarm systems
- Install, service and troubleshoot low-voltage cabling (CAT5/6, coax, fiber), including pulling, terminating, and neatly dressing cables
- Read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and system schematics
- Diagnose and resolve system faults, communication issues, equipment malfunctions, and integration problems
- Perform routine system testing, maintenance, and commissioning
- Provide on-site training and support to end users on the operation and maintenance of installed systems
- Maintain accurate and detailed service documentation, including work performed, parts/materials used, and service reports
- Collaborate effectively with project managers, engineers, and customers to ensure timely and successful completion of service tasks
- Adhere to safety standards, company policies, and industry best practices at all job sites to ensure a safe working environment
Required Qualifications:
- 2–5 years of experience servicing commercial security systems
- Strong knowledge of access control, CCTV, and intrusion alarm systems
- Ability to read and understand technical drawings, blueprints, and installation manuals
- Proficiency in using hand tools, power tools, and electronic testing equipment
- Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Strong customer service and communication skills
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Willingness to travel overnight within the State of Virginia
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with networking principles (IP addressing, PoE, switches)
- Experience with DMP or Verint is a big plus
Work Environment:
- Must be able to lift 50+ lbs, work on ladders or lifts, and work indoors/outdoors
- Regularly exposed to construction environments, requiring use of PPE
