The Conservation Council of Western Australia (CCWA) is the state’s foremost not-for-profit, non-government conservation and environment organisation. THE ROLE
We are seeking an experienced communications specialist to join our dedicated team. The Communications Manager at the Conservation Council of WA (CCWA) is responsible for developing and delivering strategic communication initiatives that engage members, supporters, and stakeholders in the organisation’s environmental mission. This role involves overseeing internal and external communications, supporting the Digital Content Coordinator, Membership Coordinator and the Events and Partnership Coordinator, and ensuring consistency in branding and messaging across all platforms. You will play a key role in crafting compelling narratives that inspire action, support community engagement, and enhance CCWA’s impact. Additionally, you will collaborate with campaign teams to develop communication strategies that align with advocacy goals, ensuring clear and effective engagement with supporters and partner organisations.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
The key responsibilities of the Communications Manager are to:
Lead the delivery of key communication projects such as the annual report, newsletters and a variety of external communication projects, publications, campaigns and initiatives including website management.
Manage and coordinate CCWAs database on NationBuilder, ensure staff have access to the training they need to utilise NationBuilder, effectively communicate with our supporters through NationBuilder and to continue to grow and adapt.
Confidently and efficiently write high-quality copy (e.g. website copy, brochures, op-eds, EDMs, emails, annual report content and other materials) for a range of audiences and purposes.
Work closely with the Media Advisor and Campaigns Director to amplify and communicate media, breaking news and current affairs that are relevant to CCWA’s strategic goals.
Work closely with the Event and Partnership Coordinator to develop promotional materials, social media content, press releases, and audience engagement strategies across various communication channels, in line with CCWA’s branding and values.
Provide communications advice to internal stakeholders and develop targeted plans to promote CCWA’s work and strategic objectives.
Ensure CCWAs brand, style and voice is accessible, motivating, reflective of our values, can be understood internally and externally. Oversee and manage all branding requirements - implement and support high-quality and consistent branding materials.
Support and work with the Digital Content Coordinator to manage the CCWA website including content, digital strategy, analytics and administration.
Provide regular reporting on communication activities and media coverage to demonstrate their effectiveness and identify opportunities for improvement.
Other duties as required by the Senior Leadership Team.
DUTIES
The key duties of the Communications Manager include:
Leadership - Lead and mentor the communications team.
Internal Communication – Facilitate clear and effective communication across teams to ensure alignment with organisational objectives.
Strategic Communications – Develop and implement communication plans that align with CCWA’s mission, advocacy goals and are designed for our target audience.
Integrated communications management – Oversee the production of a range of physical and online material to engage supporters and stakeholders.
Brand & Messaging Consistency – provide clear guidance to ensure communications, both inside and outside the organisation, reflect our values, key messages, and visual style.
Campaign Support – Collaborate with campaign teams to craft compelling narratives and engagement strategies that drive public awareness and action.
Event & Community Engagement Communications – Support the promotion and communication of events, forums, and outreach initiatives.
Monitoring & Evaluation – Track and assess communication outcomes, making data-driven improvements to engagement strategies.

The successful candidate will ideally have the following skills and attributes:
Demonstrated ability to lead, inspire, and motivate a diverse team by fostering a positive, inclusive, and high-performing work environment, alongside proven experience in mentoring and developing team members through guidance and support to help them grow and reach their full potential.
Demonstrated ability to develop and implement effective communication strategies that engage diverse audiences and align with organisational goals, along with proven experience in crafting compelling narratives, reports, website content, newsletters, and digital materials tailored to different audiences to drive engagement and support key outcomes.
Ability to work effectively within a team, contributing to campaign strategies and ensuring communication efforts align with broader organisational objectives.
Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and deliver high-quality communication outputs in a fast-paced environment.
Experience in tracking communication effectiveness using analytics and engagement metrics to inform and refine strategies.
Passion for environmental protection and sustainability, with an understanding of the key issues affecting Western Australia’s environment.
ESSENTIAL
Communications skills and experience
Passion for the environment
Valid and current Western Australian Drivers Licence
Satisfactory National Police Clearance Certificate
DESIRABLE
Relevant tertiary qualifications applicable to the role and/or significant experience in a similar role
Experience and technical knowledge managing websites and databases (prior experience with NationBuilder highly desirable)
Experience in the environment sector and knowledge of climate change issues
KEY DETAILS
Hours: Part-Time (22.50 hours per week, 0.6 FTE). Possibility for full time will be considered.
Location: Based in West Perth, Western Australia.
Salary: Social and Community Services (WA) Interim Award ($115,400 - $119,588), pro-rata for part-time.
