The Evendale Composites Engineering Technical Associate is part of our advanced Ceramic Matrix Composite (CMC) Development Lab in our Supply Chain division. This role applies hands-on experience to support development activities related to composite part manufacturing, inspection, and assembly.
Job Description
Essential Responsibilities:
Maintain safety and productivity while working within a quality system to manufacture CMC aircraft engine hardware
Complete required training curriculum for each fabrication process
Read, follow, and improve basic documents such as work instructions, ply tables, and drawings
Calculate and record in-process and conformance data with accuracy
Work with a variety of chemicals, fluids, and compressed gases and follow both company and OSHA personal protection equipment standards
Perform tasks from multiple areas of concentration, including: Ply cutting and kitting; Lay-up (hand application of material onto molds);Furnace Operations; Grit Blast; CNC Machine Operation; Non-Conventional Machining using EDM and Laser Drilling; Visual and Machine Inspection
Plan and conduct associated projects requested by engineers / organizational leader
Perform required tasks including setup, machining, inspection and documenting results
Work well with minimum supervision
Carry out material procurement and report preparation
Maintain accurate and complete records of materials and services used, experimental results, observations and raw data
Present data in an appropriate form
Create and carry out new or special material processing and evaluation techniques
Contact external and internal sources for needed information regarding materials and processes that will benefit assigned programs
Maintain currency and compliance with GE policies, procedures and directives, including vouchering, reporting, operating, environmental and safety practices
Qualifications/Requirements
Associate's Degree or High School Diploma / GED from an accredited school or institution
Desired Characteristics
2 years of experience in composites/machining/manufacturing/inspection/assembly/test technician role
Previous composite and/or manufacturing experience preferred
Ability to work independently with minimum supervision in a team environment
Flexibility to rotate between different shop floor operations
Demonstrated ability with computer systems
Mechanical and/or technical aptitude;
Strong documentation skills to record in-process and conformance data
Ability to work effectively in an inclusive environment;
A positive, can-do attitude; ability to pivot performance and behavior based on feedback
Ability to learn and embed oneself in a lean manufacturing environment
Passion for safety and quality, while maintaining focus on delivering to our customers
Understanding and ability to work with complicated drawings and part prints
Ability to operate computers, instruments and gauges
Ability to adhere to standards, do a high-quality job in a safe manner and within acceptable time
Previous experience and ability to perform in one or more of the following areas preferred: Composite Forming Operations, Thermal Processing, Conventional and Non-conventional Machining, Visual and Machine Inspection
and/or Machine Programming
