This role operates under direct supervision from a designated supervisor and is responsible for assisting in the preparation of food items, setting tables, serving food, and cleaning food service equipment and areas.\ \ Key Responsibilities:\
  • Prepares or assists in preparing food items according to prescribed
recipes and portioning requirements.
  • Performs basic cooking tasks such as boiling eggs, making toast,
grilling items like hamburgers and chicken, and baking breads and pastries.
  • Cleans, dices, peels, and cuts vegetables and fruits as needed for
food preparation.
  • Measures and mixes ingredients according to specified recipes or as
directed.
  • Sets tables and serves food to patrons or assists in assembling food
orders for service.
  • Cleans and sanitizes work areas, equipment, utensils, dishes, or
silverware.
  • Stores food in designated containers and storage areas to prevent
spoilage.
  • Maintains equipment and supplies needed in the service area and
reports equipment failures to supervisors.
  • Assists in training and overseeing student assistants or other
assigned personnel as required.
  • Participates in basic record keeping related to food preparation and
service. \ \ Minimum Acceptable Qualifications\ \ Minimum Qualifications:\
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Six (6) months of work experience in food preparation in a commercial setting.
  • As required by the position to be filled, possession of the Illinois Department of Public Health, Food Handler Training Certification (from an American National Standards Institute (ANSI) accredited trainer). \ \ Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:\
    • Knowledge of food terms, materials, equipment, and methods used to
    prepare food.
    • Knowledge of materials and methods used to prepare food on large
    scale, use and care of relevant utensils and equipment, and food values and nutrition.
    • Knowledge of weights and measurements (i.e. pound, ounce, cup,
    gallon).
    • Ability to pass food handler\'s examination.
    • Strong service orientation, actively looking for ways to help
    people.
    • Knowledge of sanitary procedures and directives; how to use simple
    cleaning solutions and equipment.
    • Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time
    to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
    • Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related
    documents.
    • Detail oriented and thorough in completing work tasks. \ \
