Position: Deputy Director, Human Resources
Reports to: Chief Operating Officer
Scope: This full-time, exempt position based in Washington, D.C., supports the COO in overseeing HR operations, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and legal compliance. Responsibilities include managing HR programs, policies, and initiatives, providing strategic leadership, and supervising the HR team.
Responsibilities include:
- Developing and implementing HR strategies, policies, and procedures.
- Managing daily HR functions such as recruitment, employee relations, benefits, and performance management.
- Providing guidance to managers and staff on HR matters.
- Ensuring compliance with employment laws.
- Handling employee relations and conflict resolution.
- Leading HR projects, including training, diversity, and organizational development.
- Analyzing HR metrics and recommending improvements.
- Supervising and mentoring HR staff.
- Acting as liaison between HR and other departments.
- Overseeing departmental budget.
- Performing additional duties as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in HR, IT, Business, or related; Master’s preferred.
- Minimum 10 years HR experience, preferably in non-profit and international development.
- Knowledge of labor laws and HR best practices.
- Ability to work in a multicultural environment and handle sensitive info with discretion.
- Experience with HR software.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Initiative, organization, and prioritization skills.
- Relationship-building skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Comfort working internationally.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
Computer Skills: Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
Certifications: HR certifications like HRIP, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR preferred.
Working Conditions: 40 hours/week, some travel (0-10%), domestic and international; no relocation offered.
Additional: U.S. work authorization required.
Salary Range: $104,000 - $131,000.
