Position Overview:
The National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) is seeking a Director of Chemicals, Materials, and Sustainability Policy. The Director serves as a key advisor, issue expert, and lobbyist for the NAM and its members on a range of issues, including chemicals use and manufacturing (including PFAS, TSCA, and chemicals risk management), clean air and clean water legislation and regulations, recycling policy and the circular economy, plastics, and more. This position requires strong research, writing, speaking, and presentation skills and experience.
This position is responsible for analyzing legislative and regulatory proposals and working with the VP of Domestic Policy to develop and execute legislative and regulatory strategies on designated issues to advance manufacturers' priorities. This person will also be responsible for working closely with key internal stakeholders, including membership (to identify issues and communicate updates on priority items), public affairs and marketing (to inform NAM advocacy campaigns and demonstrate value to our membership on assigned issues), and legal (to analyze statutory and procedural impacts of legislative and regulatory proposals). Additionally, this position will have the opportunity and responsibility to pitch, plan and execute events (public and private) to drive the NAM’s strategic advocacy goals.
The successful candidate has a track record of working effectively with policymakers on the designated issues and is able to analyze and communicate complex issues clearly and succinctly to a variety of audiences. Experience with public speaking, including engagement with the media, is preferred.
Key responsibilities include:
- Working proactively and collaboratively with other policy experts and internal groups to develop and execute advocacy strategies.
- Serving as a voice for manufacturers before relevant policymakers on Capitol Hill and in the Administration.
- Working closely with key leaders at the NAM's 14,000 member companies to identify policy priorities.
- Communicating with internal and external stakeholders about the NAM's policy work.
- Ensuring that the NAM is responsive to the needs of manufacturers on the assigned policy issues.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
- This position has no direct reports.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of 8+ years of related Capitol Hill, Executive Branch, and/or Association policy development experience.
- Exceptional understanding of legislative and regulatory processes.
- Excellent communications skills, both verbal and written.
- Proven ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, quality, and goal-driven environment.
Salary Range: $103,000 – $145,000 annually. This salary range represents a good faith estimate of the lowest to the highest salary for this position. The final salary offered will be based on qualifications and experience.
