Director of Global Tax

Zumiez has big goals for our accounting team and is looking for a dynamic leader with experience leading and developing a tax team. The role is incredibly diverse with oversite of all areas of federal tax, state and local tax, international tax and indirect taxes. The position requires someone who enjoys strategic tax planning, compliance and desires to be a leader in an international organization. This position will report to the Corporate Controller with high visibility to executive-level management.
Responsibilities
- Lead domestic and indirect tax team consisting of two managers and two staff with a heavy focus on staff development in all areas of tax.
- Advise leadership of trends and changes in tax requirements and impact on strategic planning.
- Work cross departmentally with the International entities on tax opportunities and compliance, finance on budgeting and forecasting, legal on entity set-up and compliance, and other departments to gather the necessary information for reporting purposes.
- Monitor, evaluate and analyze emerging tax trends and provide expertise on impact to organization.
- Tax compliance management by providing oversight to all tax returns domestic and international.
- Oversee federal, state, foreign income tax and indirect tax audits
- Oversee ASC 740 tax provision calculations.
- Ensure timely compliance with transfer pricing requirements including master files, local files, and country-by-country reporting.
- Analysis of tax accounting impact of transactions
- Manage relationships with various outside consultants and negotiate effective cost structure.
- Assist with other tax areas including ex-patriot taxation and information reporting, as needed.
- Manage preparation of materials for quarterly and periodic board meetings.
- Manage tax portion of financial audits. Including preparation of quarterly review tax process, annual audit process and associated internal control work.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
- 10 years + experience leading tax operations with combination of experience in public accounting and industry.
- An appreciation of the culture of Zumiez and an ability to integrate well.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to communicate with and develop strong relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders including tax authorities, accounting firms, and senior leadership.
- Experience managing team of tax professionals. Strong managerial skills, with a hands-on approach.
- Expertise in domestic taxes
- Experience with ASC740 compliance
- Experience with international tax matters
- Proven history and ability to identify and implement process improvements and efficiencies and a demonstrated drive to tackle new projects as they arise. Strong project management ability. Able to act as primary owner of individual projects, analysis and process while working cross functionally outside immediate work group.
- Superior work ethic with high level of accountability.
- Self-motivated; must be able to prioritize, organize and plan well.
- Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills. Ability to be innovative and creative with a critical thought process in resolving issues and improving systems.
- Ability to excel in a flexible, fast pace work environment under time sensitive goals, manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines. Attention to detail and strong organization skills a must.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field and a CPA
- Public accounting experience and public company experience, including global operations, strongly preferred.

Salary: $200,000 to $235,000 (commensurate to experience) plus bonus and equity
