The Government Finance Division (STAGO) of the IMF’s Statistics Department (STA) is seeking a specialized Economist/Senior Economist.
STA provides leadership on macroeconomic and financial statistics, advancing the international statistical agenda through surveillance, development of standards, and capacity building. STAGO focuses on government finance and public sector debt statistics, collaborating with international organizations like the World Bank to improve fiscal data quality and dissemination.
The successful candidate will contribute to:
- Developing and updating international statistical standards and methodologies in the fiscal area;
- Managing capacity development activities, including technical assistance and training;
- Developing and managing statistical data programs and supporting surveillance and data analysis;
- Conducting research and projects to support the department’s objectives, utilizing STA fiscal databases for evidence-based policy making.
Minimum qualifications:
- An advanced degree in macroeconomics, monetary economics, financial economics, public finance, international trade, econometrics, or related fields, with at least four years of relevant experience, OR
- A PhD in the same fields.
Additional requirements include:
- Knowledge of government finance and public sector debt statistical methodologies with practical experience;
- Experience providing technical assistance in fiscal statistics (GFS and PSDS);
- Strong communication, interpersonal, negotiation, and influencing skills;
- Proficiency in English; knowledge of French, Spanish, or Arabic is highly desirable.
