This Environmental Licensing role is responsible for supporting the development of reactor licensing efforts and associated engagements with the U.S. NRC. This role will support licensing application development and interface between internal teams (licensing, engineering, project management, supply chain, and procurement) and the U.S. NRC. Relevant topic areas include environmental law, nuclear safety, nuclear security, emergency planning, safeguards, and financial aspects, primarily related to X-energy reactor technology. The ideal candidate has expertise in geology, hydrogeology, meteorology, or biology, and experience with the National Environmental Policy Act is a plus.
Job Profile Tasks/Responsibilities
- Support licensing activities (certifications, permits, approvals, and licenses) and ensure milestones are met with the U.S. NRC.
- Provide licensing support to engineers to develop technical requirements ensuring compliance with NRC regulations.
- Develop scope for the annual regulatory engagement plan, lead regulatory audits, and respond to RAI’s (Requests for Additional Information).
- Create licensing content for Safety Analysis Reports and licensing applications.
- Support planning and execution of X-energy's licensing strategy.
- Develop regulatory white papers, technical reports, and topical licensing reports.
- Assist in developing licensing plans and budgets.
- Promote X-energy’s safety culture and ensure quality integration in licensing processes as per the Quality Assurance Program.
- Maintain professionalism in all communications.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the manager.
- Execute core responsibilities with minimal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or science (geology, hydrogeology, meteorology, biology) or related field.
- Typically, five years of relevant licensing experience.
- Experience interacting with the NRC (written and/or verbal).
- Understanding of U.S. nuclear regulatory processes.
- Project management experience related to schedule development and team coordination for regulatory content.
- Expertise in geology, hydrogeology, meteorology, or biology is strongly preferred.
- Experience with the National Environmental Policy Act is strongly preferred.
Hours: 8:00am-5:00pm ET, Mon-Fri

Compensation
The estimated salary range for this position is $110,880 - $141,680, based on experience and qualifications. Compensation varies by location and does not include benefits or incentives.
