Inpatient Coder-(Remote)

Description

Coder will be responsible for assigning diagnostic/procedural codes to patient charts of high complexity using ICD-10-CM, CPT and HCPCS or any other designated coding classification system in accordance with coding rules and regulations. Coder will respond to audits, conduct coding, and provide consultation on specific projects.

Responsibilities:

1. Assign ICD10 CM Diagnosis Codes and ICD 10 PCS Procedure Codes for assigned accounts.
2. Perform IP/OP edits.
3. Select and sequence principal and secondary diagnosis and procedure codes.
4. Assign appropriate DRG.
5. Review the medical record and all applicable documentation to determine the appropriate codes to assign for the services and diagnoses.
6. Demonstrate ability to achieve accuracy and consistency in abstracting elements defined by per facility.
7. Maintain productivity standards, tracking, and deadlines.
8. Complete accurate productivity and tracking logs.
9. May act as a mentor to training coders and/or new hires by providing education and training.
10. Maintain current knowledge of the information contained in the Coding Clinic and the Official Inpatient Guidelines for Coding and Reporting.
11. Meet productivity standards while maintaining a 95% accuracy rate.

Requirements:

1. Licenses/Certifications; CCS, RHIT, RHIA preferred.
2. Minimum of 3-5 years in Acute Care Hospital.
3. Experience with IP/OP edits.
4. Experience with complex case mixes.
5. Extensive knowledge of ICD-10 CM/PCS coding principles and guidelines, DRG Assignment, MCC/CC capture, federal, state and payor-specific regulations and policies pertaining to documentation, coding and billing.
6. Familiarity with EHR systems, encoder and other support software - 3M 360, & Cerner.
7. Understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, surgical technology, pharmacology, and disease processes.
8. High-level coding accuracy, critical thinking skills, and attention to detail.
9. Strong interpersonal communication skills, both verbal and written.
10. Strong knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
