Be our next Principal Mechanical Engineer
Your work environment at EXP
In this role, you will join the MEP team within the Buildings sector (Science/Technology & Life Sciences projects), based in San Francisco, California.
What a day at EXP has in store for you
- Identify, research, and qualify RFPs/RFQs and upcoming projects for go/no-go potential.
- Lead and manage submittals in response to RFPs/RFQs.
- Manage existing client relationships and develop new ones.
- Perform at a responsible charge level, ensuring design and quality standards are met.
- Manage work plans and deliverables across multiple projects within budgeted hours.
- Coordinate with project teams and clients to meet project milestones.
- Apply risk management procedures daily to minimize exposure to problems.
- Understand and manage the design process for MEP/FP work within the work plan hours.
- Deliver appropriate scope of work documents at SD, DD, and CD levels.
- Coordinate with other disciplines such as architectural and structural teams.
- Edit and develop scope of work narratives and basis of design documents.
- Develop equipment room sizes during SD and DD phases.
- Maintain thorough knowledge of Mechanical/Electrical codes.
- Perform advanced equipment selection and analysis (generators, UPS, chillers, boilers, etc.).
- Mentor and direct designer-level staff, ensuring quality and guiding responsibilities.
- Conduct QA/QC reviews of calculations and provide guidance.
- Apply concepts of CHW, HW, WSHP, and variable & constant flow systems.
- Select and analyze equipment such as chillers, boilers, air terminals, and water source heat pumps.
What your experience looks like
- Bachelor's degree in HVAC/Mechanical Engineering with 15+ years of building HVAC and piping design experience.
- Experience designing HVAC systems for Science/Technology, Life Sciences, or Healthcare projects.
- Project management experience and leading multidisciplinary teams.
- Registered Professional Engineer (P.E.) preferred.
- Proficiency in REVIT MEP required.
The pay range for this role is $160,000 to $200,000. Actual compensation depends on factors such as skill set, experience, certifications, and location. Compensation may vary in different locations due to labor cost differences.
