Description We are looking for an experienced Payroll Specialist to join our team in Tampa, Florida. In this long-term contract role, you will play a key part in processing payroll for a large workforce, ensuring accuracy and compliance with all applicable regulations. This position is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong payroll expertise and advanced Excel skills, particularly in a higher education setting.
Responsibilities:
Process biweekly payroll for approximately 16,000 employees, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
Handle payroll adjustments, including pre-tax deductions, garnishments, and additional pay scenarios such as summer faculty terms.
Perform payroll reconciliations to verify data accuracy and resolve discrepancies.
Utilize advanced Excel functions, such as pivot tables and VLOOKUPs, to analyze payroll data and generate reports.
Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal payroll tax requirements.
Collaborate with HR and accounting teams to address payroll-related inquiries and issues.
Maintain and update payroll records in Oracle HCM and other relevant systems.
Monitor and process time and attendance data to ensure correct compensation.
Stay informed about payroll regulations and best practices to improve processes.
Support audits by providing accurate payroll data and documentation. Requirements - Proven experience in payroll processing, preferably for a large organization with over 500 employees.
Proficiency in using payroll systems, including Oracle HCM, and strong Excel skills (e.g., pivot tables and VLOOKUPs).
Familiarity with payroll tax regulations, deductions, and garnishment processing.
Ability to perform detailed reconciliations and resolve discrepancies efficiently.
Knowledge of time and attendance systems and their integration with payroll processes.
Experience in payroll functions within the higher education or public sector is a plus.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail to handle complex payroll operations.
Excellent communication skills for working with cross-functional teams and addressing employee inquiries.
