About Design At Gusto
Product Design at Gusto is made up of over 70 creative, collaborative people who care deeply about our mission to empower small businesses and their employees. We’re a cross-functional team focused on Design, Research, Writing, Ops, and Front-end Development, always looking for opportunities to build understanding and empathy for our users. About The Role
As a staff product designer, you’ll help mature our contractor products. You’ll be an IC driving foundational shifts in our platform and customer experience, making significant changes to established workflows. You will lead the entire product development cycle from vision setting to strategic planning, to launching and refining features.

Contractors are vital to our economy and increasingly prevalent. They offer flexibility and independence for workers, and help small businesses scale efficiently and access specialized skills. Our Contractors team supports SMBs in hiring, managing, and paying domestic and international contractors, as well as helping contractors manage client engagements and grow their businesses.
Here’s What You’ll Do Day-to-day
- Collaborate with cross-functional partners to define a long-term UX vision aligned with Gusto’s broader goals.
- Work with teams in UX Research, Data Science, Legal, Compliance, Ops, and Customer Support to understand customer problems and identify opportunities.
- Design and implement both new and iterative projects that provide ongoing value.
- Share your expertise to contribute to Gusto’s product design community.
- Support and evolve our design system and standards through your work.
Here’s What We're Looking For
- 8+ years of Product Design experience.
- Demonstrated impact across multiple product areas, influencing design and product strategy.
- Experience designing approachable, guided experiences in complex domains, including maturing existing products.
- Ability to work with executive stakeholders and shape business decisions.
- Commitment to high-quality, accessible, and iterative design that delivers value early and often.
Gusto offers competitive compensation, emphasizing equity ownership. The salary range for this role is $139,000 to $199,000 in Denver and most remote locations, and $179,000 to $221,000 in Seattle, San Francisco, and New York. Final offers depend on experience and other factors.
Employees based in our offices are expected to work on-site 2-3 days per week, or more depending on the role. Remote work requires a reliable internet connection.
