Job description
The Quality Engineer will be primarily responsible for meeting quality requirements and goals as they relate to customer quality, problem resolution, documentation, and change approval. In addition, this individual will also provide leadership for continuous improvement team activities.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead all aspects of customer satisfaction. Monitor customer websites and review customer-specific requirements periodically. Keep customer complaint database up to date. Keep all documentation organized and current.
- Lead responses to customer complaints and concerns, including internal problem notification, containment, communication with customers and suppliers, verification of material for certified shipments, sorting, root cause investigation, corrective action implementation, and communication. Act as the point of contact for the customer and internally for all quality issues.
- Participate in new project launches. Complete all customer and supplier submissions on time and ensure accuracy.
- Maintain a well-organized and clean work area applying 6S principles.
- Identify all quality requirements for suppliers in writing when POs are placed. Prepare control plans and inspection plans for new projects, reviewing and revising them at least annually. Ensure prototype orders and requirements are completed on time with quality parts and paperwork.
- Identify supplier-related issues affecting customers or internal quality. Assist the Materials department with supplier improvement projects as needed.
- Support the production floor with problem solving, data analysis, and investigations. Prioritize problems and work to implement solutions. Provide quality-related training to shop personnel. Make basic presentations to help employees understand SPC, Kaizen, QC, and other quality tools. Participate in internal audit teams.
- Report issues to management before missing objectives.
- Ensure quality requirements are met and improved upon for internal manufacturing processes.
- Lead internal meetings to drive corrective actions across departments.
- Perform internal quality and process audits to ensure conformance to ISO 14001 requirements.
- Conduct internal process audits to continually improve quality and efficiency.
- Perform other duties as required.
JOB SKILLS / COMPETENCIES:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or industrial engineering.
- 3-5 years of experience in a manufacturing engineering environment.
- QE leadership experience.
- Experience with lean manufacturing, project management, and ISO 14001 procedures.
- Critical and creative thinking skills in high-stress situations.
- Ability to work independently.
- Multi-tasking and prioritization skills; excellent management and time management abilities.
- Proficient problem-solving and root cause analysis skills.
- Good judgment and decision-making abilities.
- Experience with preventative actions and cost savings, with the ability to analyze situations and present solutions.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Intermediate proficiency in Excel.
- Experience with Manufacturing ERP software, preferably PLEX.
