Job Description
We are seeking a strategic and detail-oriented Senior Financial Analyst with Credit Risk experience to join a client in the Washington DC area. This role will be critical in evaluating the creditworthiness of counterparties, analyzing portfolio risk, and driving data-informed decisions to optimize financial performance and mitigate exposure. The ideal candidate combines strong financial modeling skills with a solid understanding of credit risk frameworks and analytical rigor.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct detailed credit risk assessments on new and existing customers, counterparties, or investment opportunities.
- Develop and maintain financial models to assess risk-adjusted returns, exposure limits, and potential losses.
- Monitor credit risk metrics, trends, and concentrations across customer portfolios.
- Partner with Sales, Treasury, and Legal to ensure alignment on credit policies and contractual risk terms.
- Recommend risk mitigation strategies including credit insurance, collateral, and payment terms.
- Prepare credit memos, financial statement analysis, and risk reviews for credit committee or senior leadership.
- Assist in developing and enhancing internal credit scoring models and rating methodologies.
- Support the implementation of credit risk frameworks (e.g., IFRS 9, CECL, Basel III).
- Perform scenario analysis and stress testing to model the impact of macroeconomic factors on credit exposure.
- Contribute to credit policy development, governance, and ongoing process improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.
- 4–7 years of experience in financial analysis with a strong focus on credit risk.
- Solid knowledge of financial statement analysis, corporate credit, and risk modeling techniques.
- Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills; experience with risk tools or systems (e.g., Moody’s, S&P, Bloomberg, PowerBI, Tableau, SAS).
- Strong communication and presentation skills; ability to influence non-financial stakeholders.
- Familiarity with accounting principles and regulatory risk standards (e.g., GAAP, Basel).
- Credit certification (e.g., CFA, FRM, CCRA) is a plus.
