Position Overview
Ashburn Consulting, LLC is seeking a Senior Network Security Engineer for a direct hire opportunity in Rockville, Maryland. This individual will possess a strong understanding and implementation experience of Cisco ASA, NextGen Palo Alto Firewalls, remote access and VPN solutions, and cloud security. Knowledge and experience in F5 Load Balancers (GTM, LTM, AFM, ASM), ZScaler, Splunk, Azure Security, endpoint security are a big plus. A good understanding of network switching/routing and the ability to configure network devices (Cisco) is required. The role involves working with a team of engineers to support a large, complex network, proactively designing efficient and manageable solutions.
Qualifications
The Network Security Consulting Engineer will support security policy deployment and management, collaborate with teams to maintain enterprise network security posture, and communicate security challenges and solutions. The role requires deep technical expertise, teamwork, and the ability to handle complex technologies and concepts.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 6-8 years of experience in IT Security and Networking.
- Relevant Certifications: CCNA, Sec+, Network+, etc.
- Extensive experience with firewalls such as Palo Alto and Cisco ASA.
- Experience with Cisco network device configuration.
- Knowledge of F5 (LTM, GTM, AFM, APM).
- Expert-level support and implementation of network security devices including firewalls, load balancers, VPNs, and IDS/IPS.
- Continuous monitoring and assessment of network security, testing, and implementing new security technologies.
- Design and implement enterprise network security solutions based on application and infrastructure requirements.
- Collaborate on the design and implementation of complex network technologies (Data Center, Cloud, Hybrid).
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, network diagrams, SOPs, and work instructions.
- Manage platform lifecycle activities such as patching, upgrades, and policy configurations.
- Lead initiatives related to network security upgrades, EOL/EOS equipment replacement, and load balancer redesigns.
- Experience with cloud-based solutions, especially Azure Security.
- Strong communication skills for technical and managerial audiences.
- Ability to create detailed technical documentation and network diagrams.
- Must be able to work on-site in Rockville, Maryland, 3 days a week, with 2 days remote.
