The Business Group Licensing Projects team is responsible for technical analysis, including non-infringement and validity analysis, of patents asserted or litigated against Nokia products. We are seeking a Patent Counsel who would assess patent assertions and perform technical analysis of 3rd party patents asserted or litigated against Nokia. In this role, you would collaborate with adjacent teams in TECH, product developers, Outside Counsel and/or IP Vendors to develop effective arguments. The Patent Counsel would also perform patent portfolio analyses and prepare claim charts against standards and implementation, as needed.
- Technical analysis, including non-infringement and validity analysis, of 3rd party patent assertions and litigations against Nokia and our customers
- Evaluating risks for Nokia products based on assertion packages from third parties
- Creating invalidity and non-infringement arguments, as well as studying potential workaround solutions
- Making/subcontracting prior art searches
- Co-operating with standardization and business unit experts to understand the technology and detailed product implementations
- Presenting defensive arguments in negotiations with 3rd parties
- Working together with in-house and external counsels in litigations
- Preparing and reviewing claim charts against standards and implementation, as needed.
- A qualification as a registered patent attorney
- Strong technological background and familiarity with cellular communication standards such as LTE and 5G, and/ or IP networks
- M.Sc. or similar qualification in a relevant technical field such as electrical engineering or computer science
- An aptitude for continuous learning of new and complex technologies
- A good team player
It would be nice if you also had:
- At least 5 years of experience in IPR and/or cellular standards
- A fluent English speaker and writer
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to prioritize effectively and work efficiently in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
