The Hub Cloud Services (HCS) team handles billions of events daily and millions of commands to users’ homes. We are responsible for processing commands and events so quickly that it’s indistinguishable to users whether automation runs in the cloud or locally on their network. In addition to building and enhancing our event/command pipelines, we own and control the APIs central to our hub and partner hubs. The hub is the backbone of many modern smart homes, making our team’s APIs and tools central for numerous teams at SmartThings.
Key Responsibilities
This position is a hybrid role, based onsite 3 days a week at our office in Minneapolis, MN.
- Build and maintain cloud services that are scalable, highly available, and fault-tolerant.
- Proactively identify areas for improvement and influence strategy within the team’s responsibility.
- Improve quality, uptime, and monitoring for all existing applications and apply best practices for new development.
- Lead projects and create new architectural designs with your team members.
- Collaborate across global teams.
- Mentor other team members.

What You Bring On Day One (Required Qualifications)
- BA/BS or MS in Computer Science, Computer/Electrical Engineering, or similar discipline.
- 5+ years of experience in a software role.
- Strong development skills (preferably in Java or another JVM-based language).
- Experience in designing and developing microservices and REST APIs.
- Experience with deploying to cloud-based services like AWS or GCP.
- Experience with cloud services deployments, monitoring, and production support.
- Ability to work within established infrastructure and quickly become familiar.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Self-starter with the ability to work with minimal supervision and manage time effectively.
- Eager to learn new technologies and adapt to changing requirements.
Desired Skills
- Experience with DynamoDB and Redis.
- Hands-on experience with at least one cloud platform: AWS, Azure, or GCP.

Base salary range: $115,087 to $163,912 USD annually. Actual salary depends on experience, skills, and market factors. Role is eligible for a 20% annual bonus based on performance.
