Founding Engineer

Drillbit’s mission is to make housing more affordable. Contractors needlessly waste hours every day on office work resulting in inflated costs. Drillbit automates all of it so that businesses can get back to the work they were hired for. We are a YC startup that just raised a $3.6 million seed round at a $22 million valuation. Over 160 businesses use our service daily resulting in a projected $1.8M in revenue.
Product Overview:
Drillbit is the first fully self-managed FSM (Field Service Management). We use AI receptionists and an LLM-based quoting tool on top of our in-house FSM to manage jobs end-to-end. Our agents manage leads, scheduling, quoting, staffing, and even collecting payment. You can think of us as a hands-off AI-based operating system for home services.
Position Overview:
We are looking for a highly technical, hard-working, and scrappy full-stack engineer to join the team as the founding engineer (staff level). You’ll partner with the founder to build out the engineering team and take the product to the next level.
Responsibilities:
- Lead product development ensuring the system is scalable, reliable, and meets the needs of our customers
- Develop and execute on the technology strategy working closely with the founder
- Stay up-to-date with the latest LLM best practices and apply them to our product
- Manage a fast-growing technical team ensuring quick delivery of high-quality solutions
- Foster a culture of innovation, excellence, and collaboration within the technology team
Qualifications:
- Passionate about making housing more affordable
- C.S. degree from a reputable university
- Former founder or founding engineer ideal
- Former technical lead and/or staff engineer
- Experience building and architecting large consumer facing systems
- Up-to-date with new trends in LLMs and a desire to work at the cutting edge
- Full-stack experience in:
- Front End: React, NextJS, Typescript
- Backend: Porter, Temporal, Vercel
- Relational DBs: Supabase
- LLMs: OpenAI
- Voice: VAPI, Eleven Labs, Twilio
