System Administrator

Cardinal Gibbons High School is seeking an experienced and proactive full-time System Administrator to oversee and manage our small IT department, ensuring seamless technology operations for 1,100 students and 130 full-time staff. This role is responsible for maintaining the school's IT infrastructure, managing networks and servers, supporting cybersecurity initiatives, and ensuring reliable access to technology for faculty, staff, and students.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with expertise in IT systems administration, network management, and user support in an academic environment. We are a full Apple/Mac environment and the successful person in this role will have extensive experience with MacOS environments. The System Administrator performs all duties and responsibilities in alignment with the mission, vision, and values of the Archdiocese of Miami.
Responsibilities include:
- Oversee the maintenance, configuration, and security of school-wide IT systems, including servers, networks, and cloud-based services.
- Lead the IT team in providing technical support for faculty, staff, and students, troubleshooting hardware and software issues, and ensuring minimal downtime.
- Implement and maintain security protocols, monitor for threats, and ensure compliance with data protection policies.
- Manage system updates, hardware upgrades, and software installations to ensure optimal performance.
- Oversee inventory and lifecycle management of school-owned devices, including student and faculty laptops, tablets, and classroom technology.
- Work with school leadership to align IT strategies with educational goals, including the integration of technology in the classroom.
- IT budgets, procure hardware and software, and coordinate with external vendors and service providers.
- Develop and enforce IT policies, create user guides, and maintain accurate documentation of systems and processes.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
- 5 or more years of experience in system administration or IT management (preferably in an educational setting).
- Proficiency in Windows and MacOS environments, network administration, cloud-based services (Google Workspace, Microsoft 365), and cybersecurity best practices.
- Experience overseeing a small IT team, providing guidance, and managing workflow efficiently.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues effectively.
- Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical users and provide training when necessary.
- Preferred certifications: CompTIA Network+, Security+, Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator, or similar industry certifications.
